Thermo Fisher Scientific has permanently eliminated 230 jobs across three locations in San Diego County, California, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification.
The notice, received by the state this week, comes after the diagnostics company in November reported a total of 105 staff cuts at facilities in San Diego, Alameda and San Mateo counties.
A Thermo Fisher executive attributed the latest layoffs to a drop in demand for COVID-19 testing products and other economic and business conditions, according to the WARN notice. The job reductions include positions in manufacturing as well as engineers and scientists.
In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for Thermo Fisher said the layoffs were made “to remain in line with current manufacturing volume demands.”
