Name: Kate Benedict
New title: President of Medtronic’s Acute Care and Monitoring business
Previous title: President of Flex’s global health solutions business
Kate Benedict joined Medtronic as president of the company’s acute care and monitoring business, the company announced Monday. She will also serve on the leadership team for Medtronic’s medical surgical portfolio.
Benedict has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, including in medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Most recently, Benedict worked at manufacturing firm Flex as president of its health solutions business. That team served medical equipment and medical device customers, according to Benedict’s LinkedIn.
She has also served as general manager of BD’s vascular access and integrated diagnostic solutions businesses, and in executive roles at Novartis’ eye care business, Alcon, and Johnson & Johnson’s surgical business, Ethicon.
Benedict joins a segment that Medtronic formed after it decided not to spin out its patient monitoring and respiratory businesses last year. Instead, Medtronic moved to keep the units in-house, combining them into a new acute care and monitoring unit. As part of the change, Medtronic planned to shut down its ventilator business and invest the savings into the new unit.
Frank Chan, the previous leader of the acute care and monitoring business, announced his departure on LinkedIn three months ago. Chan is now chief operating officer of Haemonetics, which makes devices used in hospitals, plasma and blood centers.
