REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 16, 2026 — Osteoboost Health, Inc., the developer of the first and only FDA-cleared prescription medical device for low bone density, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued U.S. Patent No. 12,734,092 B2, “Treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis and stimulating bone growth.”
This is Osteoboost's seventh U.S. patent and its first granted outside the company's original patent family, broadening the portfolio and lengthening the protection around its core technology.
The new patent covers the sensor-driven control system that helps Osteoboost assess device fit, monitor motor performance, and adjust vibration within a fixed treatment range.
Key protected features include:
- A wearable device that holds a vibration motor in contact with an area of the body.
- Motor sensors that track motor parameters, such as movement or frequency, during treatment.
- An accelerometer that measures vibration transmission and a pressure sensor to measure how snugly the device fits against the body so that the vibration can be calibrated to that fit.
- A controller that reads the motor sensors to determine the vibrational energy needed to reach the bone, then adjusts the motor during treatment in response to both readings until each falls within a predetermined range.
The company has also secured corresponding patents in Japan (JP7857464) and South Korea (KR102630817), part of the same patent family as the newly issued U.S. patent. Both are among the world's oldest and fastest-aging countries, where age-related bone loss is a growing health challenge.
"Building something new in women's health takes years, and protecting that work and innovation is how we make sure it reaches the people it was made for," said Laura Yecies, CEO of Osteoboost Health. "This patent covers the technology at the heart of Osteoboost and extends that protection years into the future. As we scale, it gives us the foundation to keep building toward a comprehensive bone health solution for the millions of women who have gone without one."
Worn low around the hips, Osteoboost delivers targeted, low-magnitude vibration clinically proven to slow the loss of bone density in the lumbar spine and hips, the regions most vulnerable to fracture, in a single 30-minute session that patients can complete while standing or moving through their day. The therapy draws on NASA-funded research into bone loss in astronauts.
The patented sensor system is at the core of what makes Osteoboost effective: by reading the vibration's frequency and acceleration as it is transmitted through the skeleton, along with the pressure of the device against the body, it calibrates the dose to each person, so the spine and hips receive the specific level of vibration shown to stimulate osteoblasts and inhibit osteoclast activity and ultimately slow the loss of bone density and strength. Whole-body vibration platforms send force up from the feet, where much of it dissipates before reaching the hips and spine. Osteoboost delivers its calibrated dose directly to the bones at greatest risk for life-altering fractures.
Osteoboost was designated a Breakthrough Device by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and in 2024 was cleared through the rigorous De Novo pathway, following FDA review of the device’s safety and effectiveness data. In a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, participants who used the device at least 3 times a week had 85% less bone density loss and 83% less bone strength loss in the spine than those who used a sham device over a 12-month period.
Since its nationwide launch in May 2025, Osteoboost has been prescribed by more than 3,000 physicians, including clinicians at more than 30 leading academic medical centers, and was named to TIME's 2025 list of Best Inventions.
