Name: Andrew Aberdale
New title: President and CFO, AiM Medical Robotics
Previous title: Acting CFO, AiM Medical Robotics
AiM Medical Robotics said Tuesday it has appointed Andrew Aberdale as president and CFO.
The U.S. company, which partnered with Siemens Healthineers in May, is developing a portable robotic surgery system. AiM has designed the image-guided system for use in neurostimulation lead placement, biopsies, tumor and epilepsy ablation, and drug delivery.
Aberdale specializes in taking early-stage startups through commercialization, AiM said. The executive has worked at seven startups, helping list two companies on the Nasdaq and NYSE via a special-purpose acquisition company and a traditional initial public offering. Aberdale also orchestrated the sales of four companies to strategic industry buyers and private equity firms.
The appointment will provide operational leadership to accelerate clinical and commercial deployment of AiM’s system, the company said. Aberdale’s leadership will be “instrumental in executing our commercial strategy and expanding our strategic partnership ecosystem, including our recent collaboration with Siemens Healthineers,” AiM CEO Gregory Fischer said in a statement.
Siemens Healthineers agreed to connect its Magnetom MRI scanners to AiM’s platform. AiM called the integration an important step toward the coordination of its robot with MRI scanners, as well as a basis for future collaborations.
The company hired Aberdale as acting CFO in February, according to the executive’s LinkedIn profile. Previously, Aberdale ran a startup consulting company and worked as CFO of Ascend Elements, a battery recycler.
AiM last disclosed funding in September, when it raised an $8.1 million Series A financing round. The company raised the money to support a first-in-human clinical study and expand strategic partnerships.
