Name: Jared Eben
New title: Chief commercial officer, EndoQuest Robotics
Previous title: Vice president of robotics, AI and neuroscience, HCA Healthcare
EndoQuest Robotics said Thursday it has appointed Jared Eben as chief commercial officer.
Eben has joined EndoQuest from HCA Healthcare, a for-profit operator of healthcare facilities. His tenure at HCA is part of a varied career, which has seen Eben work at companies including operating room software developer Proximie and surgical robotics business Auris Health. That range of experiences informed EndoQuest's decision to hire Eben.
“Jared brings experience from both medical technology companies and health systems,” EndoQuest CEO Eduardo Fonseca said in a statement. “That perspective is essential as we prepare for commercialization. Our goal is not simply to place systems, but to help clinical teams build sustainable robotic endoluminal surgery programs.”
The company is developing a flexible robotic surgery system designed to support a wider range of procedures than existing technologies. EndoQuest is pitching the product as a way to enhance access through natural orifices, minimizing the trauma and scars from surgical incisions. The company predicts the system can cut recovery times and reduce costs.
EndoQuest, which is yet to receive Food and Drug Administration authorization for the device, is aiming to launch the device in the U.S. next year. Ahead of the launch, the company has appointed Eben to lead its commercial strategy and health systems partnerships.
Eben named working with physicians and operational leaders as his priority. By assisting potential users of the system with training, workflows and program requirements, the executive aims to help healthcare providers prepare to adopt robotic endoluminal surgery. Eben’s other focus is on ensuring the clinical and economic value of the technology “aligns for patients, physicians and health systems alike.”
EndoQuest completed enrollment in its PARADIGM clinical trial in July. Preliminary results from 50 robotic endoscopic submucosal dissection procedures showed no cases of device-related bleeding or perforation and a 100% en-bloc resection rate. En-bloc resection indicates that a lesion has been removed in a single intact piece.
The results reflected outcomes as of July 18. At the time, EndoQuest was continuing to perform follow-up, verification and database review. The company is preparing a de novo classification request to the FDA. If the device comes to the U.S. market next year, it could benefit from CPT codes that are due to take effect on Jan. 1.
