Name: Taylor Patton
New title: Chief commercial and marketing officer, Intuitive
Previous title: Global senior vice president of endoluminal business, Intuitive
Veteran Intuitive executive Taylor Patton is stepping into the role of chief commercial and marketing officer as of July 1, the robotic surgery company said last week.
Patton, who will succeed Henry Charlton, joins the executive leadership team after holding top posts in commercial, marketing and clinical application engineering.
His appointment comes at a time when Intuitive is facing increasing competition from a steady stream of new market entrants in the U.S., Europe, China and other countries. Intuitive said it is expanding its commercial operations to prepare for continued global growth.
"Taylor has spent nearly two decades with Intuitive, building and scaling teams across multiple business units and geographies," CEO Dave Rosa said in a statement. "He is uniquely positioned to lead at this moment in Intuitive's journey – having demonstrated the ability to launch new technologies, build new commercial organizations, and earn trust with customers around the world.”
Patton previously was global senior vice president of Intuitive’s endoluminal business, where he led the launch of the Ion platform, establishing clinical programs across multiple geographies. The Ion robot is used in performing lung biopsy procedures.
Charlton, who will work with Patton to support the transition, is taking up the position of Intuitive’s senior vice president of global business operations.
“In his new position, Henry will focus on Intuitive’s role in generating value for patients, physicians, and health care systems globally, and ensuring our customers receive world-class support no matter where they are,” said Rosa.
On an April earnings call, Rosa acknowledged that growth in da Vinci robot procedures outside the U.S., while still strong, had slowed from prior quarters. Greater use of the system in general surgeries, however, encouraged the robotics market leader to raise its 2026 worldwide da Vinci procedure growth outlook.
