Medtronic has hired longtime Johnson & Johnson executive Eric Lenard to fill the new position of vice president and CFO for innovation, development and quality.
CFO Thierry Piéton, who announced Lenard’s appointment Monday on LinkedIn, said the new job at Medtronic represents an important step in the company’s efforts to accelerate investment in innovation.
“This role brings Finance even closer to how we prioritize, fund, and execute R&D at enterprise scale, enabling our innovation pipeline to deliver even greater patient impact and long‑term value creation,” Piéton wrote.
At J&J, Lenard spent more than two decades in a variety of senior leadership posts in finance, according to his LinkedIn profile. In his most recent role, he was vice president of global services finance and before that, vice president of finance and CFO for robotics and digital solutions.
Praising Lenard’s track record at J&J, Piéton said, “I look forward to partnering with him as we further strengthen the financial rigor, discipline, and transparency behind our innovation agenda.”
Lenard joins Medtronic in a year of organizational changes at the medtech giant, including the creation of a European software development hub in Ireland, consolidation of its cardiovascular businesses into a new unit and spinoff of the diabetes business.
