GE HealthCare has appointed former Medtronic executive Rodolphe Katra as global chief AI officer.
Peter Arduini, CEO of GE HealthCare, disclosed the appointment this week on LinkedIn. Arduini outlined how Katra’s 25 years in medtech, AI and R&D have given him experience of implementing technology in complex clinical and regulatory environments. The CEO envisions GE HealthCare benefiting from that experience.
“Reporting to Taha Kass-Hout, and working closely with our segment teams, Rodolphe will help us take our AI strategy to the next level—connecting devices, software and data to deliver better insights, more longitudinal understanding and more precise care,” Arduini said.
Kass-Hout is a former Amazon and Food and Drug Administration leader who joined GE HealthCare as chief technology officer in 2023. GE HealthCare hired its first chief AI officer, Parminder Bhatia, later that year. Bhatia left GE HealthCare this year and became senior vice president for AI at Edwards Lifesciences in July.
With Bhatia leaving, GE HealthCare hired Katra to lead its AI team. The appointment affects Medtronic, where Katra has served as the company’s global chief AI officer since 2023, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Katra joins a company that Arduini claims leads the industry “in bringing AI to customers.” The CEO made the claim on an earnings call in July, adding that GE HealthCare is “equally focused on using AI inside the company to improve productivity, simplify work and strengthen our supply chain.”
Arduini supported his claim about GE HealthCare’s AI leadership in the LinkedIn post announcing Katra’s appointment. GE HealthCare has 134 FDA-authorized AI-enabled medical devices, more than any other medtech company, the CEO said. Last week, GE HealthCare disclosed a partnership with Mass General Brigham to use generative AI to support radiation therapy teams.
